  • 101 Business Process Modeling (using Metastorm ProVision) - Three Days

Business Process Modeling is a model-driven approach for understanding and improving obsolete, cross-functional business processes to yield maximum effectiveness. The concepts of Business Process Modeling are enabled by Metastorm ProVision, a visual modeling and repository-based solution that captures and maintains the "who, what, when, where, why and how" of your business. This course establishes a practical and reusable approach for performing Business Process Modeling projects, while providing an extensive overview of the capabilities of Metastorm ProVision.

This course is a prerequisite for our 205 Process Analytics Using DES, 202 Business Requirements Modeling, and 201 Metastorm ProVision Advanced Features classes.

    Strategic Modeling
Business Process Modeling projects begin by setting boundaries, exploring the business environment and understanding strategic direction. This view of the business examines major organizations and their roles, such as customers, suppliers, competitors and internal departmental relationships. The interactions between these "actors" (involving resources, products, services and feedback) are investigated to identify optimization opportunities. The resulting business strategy provides guidance for reengineering or improving business processes, and gives direction for ongoing management of the business processes.

    Business Process Modeling
A business process is a series of activities within the organization that produces a product, service or business deliverable of value. Processes are identified within the scope and context of the business strategy. They are framed and modeled using a workflow model to reflect component activities, the organization or role performing the activities, conditional branching, and the sequencing of the flow of work between activities. Both current and redesigned business processes are discussed in this class.

    Metastorm ProVision
Metastorm ProVision enables organizations to improve their performance and competitiveness. It provides modeling, analysis and simulation tools for all aspects of the enterprise, including strategy, processes, systems and technology. Its extensive support for objects and models is thoroughly covered in this class, including model editing, publication, appearance and adornments, object associations, and team usage. We also review the organization, business interaction, communication, workflow, process, opportunity and problem modelers from both a conceptual and a tool perspective.
